Paul, The Psychic Octopus.

As you all know, Paul the Octopus is or was an international icon to football fans every where (except the Dutch). He has passed recently, and this post is a tribute to him. Paul was one of the most famous of our eight legged friends. Every one has his respect and he is in our hearts and minds for the rest of our lives. Why Paul, out of all of the octopi in the world, we don't know. But he was a famous mollusk to remember, and his result of picking the FIFA world cup matches was extraordinary. Goodbye Paul.

Chock Full Term 4

As my title basically sums up what I'm typing, we have a lot going on this term and one of them is trying to break (unofficially) the record for the largest air guitar ensemble. The school will hopefully participate and advertising is a must. I (Toby) have been making flyers for teachers and other kids are making posters. We are also holding a Harry potter evening for year 6-4. Look out for room 7 posters and feel free to come along (fee not yet specified) and dress up as your favourite Harry potter character. Get up on stage for thirty seconds and describe yourself the best you can (your character that is). There will be Harry Potter food (Made by Room 7 students), prizes and lots of magic! All of these are room 7 FUN raisers! Hope you can help us on our trip to Golden Bay.
Here's a song that I think we should use for the Air Guitaring.

NIS (Nelson Intermediate School) Visit.

Today, most of the year 6's of Totora syndacite had a bus ride towards their future (Some just being nosy because it's not their future). We arrived in the assembly hall, once again hearing Mr. Gully's enthusiastic voice. He had a quick talk to us about what we would do throughout our grand tour and then we were split into groups. Lucy and Matty were my tour guides, and Ben, and Quinn were some kids in my class in my group. We had a look at a few classes, spending about 1-2 minutes in each one. I saw a few familiar faces, and I can't wait to taunt and annoy some of those older kids, and that is just so much fun. NIS has a brilliant canteen selling everything from Nachos to macaroni cheese, and garlic bread to hot pies. I was interviewed by the NIS news crew, and they asked me my name, if I was coming to NIS and what I looked forward to. I am excited to taking part in the topics for each term (Hard materials, Bio Tech, Cooking and Technology). I got to go into my brothers class which was really cool, so I got to see what he does at school. The classes and teachers look great, and I will definentely go for the enrichment class in term 4. I can't wait. Also, since I play 1st cornet in the Nelson Junior Brass Band, I want to continue playing in the Junior band and moving up to the Youth band at intermediate. It's going to be awesome at intermediate, and even though I will miss Central, I can't wait to say goodbye and head into a different school. It'll be brilliant.

"May the force be with you"-Quote, Qui Gonn Jin, The Phantom Menace

We, in room 7 are superior in the forces. We have recently had our Totara rubber band race. Room 7 was ultimately the winner with Bianca thrashing the other class contestants. As we speak she is being interviewed by Ben W, and filmed by Sam. Here is a small recount of the race day.
Our invention was sitting lone on the table, but we had other
things to do and see. T'was the time the Totora rubber band car race! Cameron, room 1 rep was up. He was winding it up in a nervous fashion, and I thought it might break under his nervous preassure.
He let it go... 90 cm. Interesting. Anyway, throughout the afternoon some cars were "jammed" or "stuffed", but some gave a promising result. But none were match for Bianca of room 7, smashing the competion with a staggering 13.68 metres . Harry said his would go 20 metres. It went ten metres. His mouth was hanging open when he saw Biancas blitz the track, didn't say a thing. Good decision there Harry. Anyway Bianca won, we are superior and everyone knows it.
YAAAYYYYYY, BRAGGING RIGHTS, WOO HOOO.
P.S, listen to B.o.B magic on youtube, it's addicting!

Things Happening This Term (Again)

Well, this term I have things happening academically, and sport wise. I've played one of my two basket-ball tournaments. We won all of our games, smashing Marlborough red 98-0 and Marlborough Black 71-0. They were our last two games I, don't remeber the first two game scores but we played three Marlborough teams and one Waimea team. My next tournament is in Blenheim, with the same team. There is one Nelson girls team and two Nelson boy rep teams. I am also publishing alot of work this week, with my five page free choice story (Night of the Living Hats) and my current events writing about the Pakistan flooding. It's at level four, I think. If it is that's really awesome. I'm feeling a bit crook, but I should be felling better soon. Also my teacher, Jonathan, came back from his European holiday the photos were pretty damn awesome. So yeah, that's pretty much it. Mash.

Halfway through Awesomeness!

So far, I am halfway through this year of school. My rich task is completed (Awesome forces) with the help of Lachie and Liam, making a car out of Knex and powered by rubber bands. We then have to make a rubber band powered car this term (different terms apply to Knex).
I also made the A rep team for Nelson for a couple of basketball tournaments. One in Nelson and one in Blenheim. I am excited, and I know everyone in my team. The first tournament is this Sunday. Hooraa. Sorry nothing else to say. Blah.

My Life

My life has been humoring and pretty good so far. Today when I went back to the class room I saw and extremely big and fat duck. I told the others, and when some kid went up to it... KER-PLOP!
A green poop.
I have been doing a fair bit of basket ball as well . Last Sunday my team had a small tournament and we won both games. The next day I filled in for the Junior Reps team in the intermediate grade.
We beat prep, ending their winning streak by a 32-20 win.
The Giants played last night, winning their quarter final against the Southland Sharks. Their next game will be against the Waikato Pistons up in Waikato. If they win that, then they are back in Nelson for game 1 of the final series probably against the Wellington Saints. That will be pretty cool.
School is good, and I can't wait for the holidays.
Yay.

My Busy Weekend

I woke up on Saturday morning, got up at 6:30 am, had a shower, had breakfast and got ready for soccer. We were playing in Takaka and Lachie's mum was taking me over there. When we got there it was just the usual setup. Some stretches, a bit of jogging and ball-handling exercises and then the whistle blew to start the game. I play defence so I don't get any action unless the other team has the ball. It was quite a close game. We won 3-1 with Sam scoring a penalty and the other two scored by Arlo. After the game we went to the Wholemeal Cafe and had lunch. That night I went to my brother's friend's place for a sleep-over and we went to the Giants game and they won. On Sunday I had a very nice breakfast and we played the Risk board game which was cool. I went home very, very tired. Also this term we have been doing and finishing off alot of writing. There is an awesome pic of meh and Lacheh!

The Term 1 Findout Awards... WOOO HOOO!

At the end of each term room 7 has an occasion where we get to present our findouts in the "Room7 Findout Awards". Findouts are our homework that we have done over the term. You can either write on paper (hard copy) or you can design a power point presentation (digital). In the findout awards, you can enter two findouts from the amount you have done in that term. The maximum is two. One of them must be hard copy and on must be digital. Most people entered both categories but I only entered in the digital category. I was manning the computer and data projector with my good mate Kyle. We were streaming live from the "Room 7 web-cam of awesomeness". As the people presented their findouts I called the next presenters up. The judges (Tim, Lucy and Sabine) were writing and scribbling scores down. When it was my turn I just went up and did everything that I had practiced. My findout was on the "Peanuts" comic strip, written by Charles Schulz. The info was pretty good and I think it was a good piece of homework. I am a Peanuts fanatic and that's why I did my findout on it. After the rest of the people had done their findouts the judges called out the winners. I didn't believe it but I had won the Supreme Award and the Year 6 Digital Award. I won a box of Favourites and block of chocolate. I felt quite good.

The Cay

In our class we have been doing alot of work on one story- The Cay. It is a moving and thrilling story about a boy called Philip who lives on an island, that is being attacked by German U-boats. He and his mother try to leave for Miami, the ship that they leave on is shot and sank by a torpedo. Philip scrambles onto a life raft and ends up blind, floating out at sea with a black man that he doesn't even know. The way Philip was brought up by his mother, is horrible because she was racist so Philip was too, so he didn't trust the black man (called Timothy). They ended up on a little, unidentified island so they make shelter, and a water catch. Timothy knows that he is old and will get weaker and weaker, day by day so even though Philip is blind Timothy tries to train Philip to do things for himself more. Sure enough, one day on the Cay (hey that rhymes!) a huge storm came upon the Philip and Timothy, and Timothy dies protecting Philip. Philip is later on picked up by an old schooner, and is fixed up. Having surgery made his vision come back. Racism is wrong and this story tells you that.

KEWL CAMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last Thursday we had our camp at Cable Bay. It was one of the most totally awesomeness awesome camps I've ever been on! When we got there we played on the trampoline that they had there, and then we were given a briefing of what to do. After that we started to set up the tents! We slept in David's tent and it was really simple when we set it up. ( well kind of simple.) When we had them all up we loaded them with luggage. That was cool and before I knew it, we had the tents up and we were on the way to paint balling. When we got there we had to put adult sized overalls on. Adult sized. Most of us also went on an awesome truck thing with seats on the back we went through the river, up a hill and at the arena. We got a cool briefing and we were given our weapons. We played capture the flag for two rounds of 20 mins and then headed back. Oh and the truck thing is called the troop mover . We went back to the beach where we had a BBQ. And then it rained on us. We had a good night's sleep and the next morning we headed up Peppin Island! On the way up Jonathan asked us to climb up a steep hill for good side-on camera shots. Then we kept going. On our first view of Delaware Bay, we drew a picture of it from black and white pastels. Then we got to telephone point and had a rest. We could see the trig so we moved fast. We did move fast up the ridge and then we made lunch at the trig. We had wraps with nice fillings and then we took the steep way down the hill which was fun. We got to a path and then me and my friends spent the whole way down talking about stuff. We could see the bottom and then before I knew it... We were there! On the way back in the cars I was tired but felt good. IT WAS A TOTALLY AWESOMENESS AWESOME CAMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Totara Tryathlon 2010

On Tuesday, the 23rd of February the Totara Tryathlon was in session! I was as nervous as a bunny having a gun pointed at it! At morning tea I got into my gear and played around for a bit and then... it came. The bell, signifying it was time for the tryathlon! first the year 5 girls were up. BANG! Then the year 5 boys. BANG! Then the year 6 girls. I was getting more nervous by the second. BANG! Then the year 6 boys. I lined up with my helmet on, knowing my trusty stead (also known as my bike) was in the transition when I came to him. BANG! We were off I jogged at a fast pace, around the back field, up the steps and then... RELIEF! I was wading the pool around the buoy, out of the pool and then... BOOM! I'm at the transition! I jumped on my bike and rode around the course at a fast pace. On the last corner I was almost overtaken by Joe.P but he turned way too tight and... WHAM! He skidded off his bike and I crossed the line. I got 7th. I am really proud.
